“Albergo Casalta” is just a short distance from the castle of Monteriggioni – pride of Tuscany – in the centre of Strove, a small village of Lombard origins, later becoming a stopover place for pilgrims on the ‘Via Francigena’ (heading north from Rome to Canterbury).
Situated just 15kms from Siena, Strove Castle was razed to the ground in 1300 and on its ruins was built the tallest fortress house of the town, and from this comes the name “Casalta”.
This charming hotel, a characteristic Tuscan stone house, with comfortable lounge, fireplace and panorama of the picturesque Val d’Elsa and Siena countryside, has 10 double bedrooms all lovingly furnished following traditional local style. Being run by a family, guests immediately feel at home and all this makes it a pleasure to stay in a warm, pleasant atmosphere of total relaxation.
Listed in most gastronomic guides, including the Michelin Guide, ‘Gambero Rosso’ Guide and the ‘Routard’ Guide, the renowned Casalta restaurant has been created in the old stable block of the ancient fortress house
and offers excellent traditional cuisine with a modern touch. You will be welcomed to an evocative atmosphere in the summer verandah and three small salons furnished in an elegant rustic style; one being a ‘cantinetta’ small wine cellar used for tastings and theme evenings.
Pride of the hotel, there is a little of everything in the wine cellar: a large area dedicated to Tuscany, yet a wide choice coming from other Italian regions and abroad: France, California, Chile, Canada, South Africa…
