The Parador de Alcaniz sits on top of Cerro Pui-Pinos, at whose feet there is a town filled with squares and alleys, porches, balconies, retaining its medieval charm.
The castle was built during the 12th and 13th centuries and in 1179 became the head location for the order of Calatrava. It dominates the landscape of Maestrazgo and still has its dungeon and the belfry-sacristy.
Gothic murals, Romanesque tomb chapel Romanesque and Baroque facade are placed in a soft shades of red, ochre and green oak beams. The suite "Alfonso the Battler", a beautiful room, is one of the most unique rooms because it is located within one of the towers: one side dominates the city with its narrow streets and medieval alleys of Alcañiz and on the other side you can admire the entire River Guadalope. The furniture makes this one of the most beautiful rooms of this fascinating hotel.
From the hotel guests may organize a series of tours and activities related to adventure sports: canoeing, rock climbing, hang gliding, or visit to the Magisterium Morella (65 km), Mirambel (85 km), Route Guadalope with Calanda (20 km) and Mills (40 km), Matarraña, Calaceite (37 km) or Beceite (43 km).
And after the tour, don't miss the Aragonese cuisine: alcañizana eggs, roast lamb and desserts like cakes and Alma almonds. The wines of Somontano and Carignan are the ideal accompaniment in order to enjoy these delights. In addition, the Parador has elegant meeting rooms and ballrooms that can accommodate up to 200 people.
