Located in an 18th-century convent, the Parador de Mérida preserves the structure of the ancient monastery, built on the remains of a temple dedicated to "Concordia de Augusto”. Located in the heart of Merida its offers its guests the chance of experimenting the rich heritage of this beautiful city, founded by the Romans in 25 BC like the “Emerita Augusta”.
Mérida became one of the most important cities of the Empire and still today has one of the best Roman theaters of Europe and amongst others there's the Roman amphitheatre, the Arc of Trajan, the Temple of Diana and the Aqueduct of the Miracles.
The hotel's hall, the chapel of the ex-convent, the courtyard and the splendid gardens where there's the “Garden of Antiquities”, formed by archaeological mudéjar, Roman and Visigoth elements are some of its most important features. Furthermore, the Parador has its own chapel for weddings and other ceremonies, plus 7 meeting rooms that can accommodate from 12 to 200 people.
Amongst the many dishes served by the restaurant worth mentioning are the organic products, the Extremadura stew, the wide selection of gazpachos and the figs of Almoharín.
To become familiar with the surrounding areas it is possible to visit also Cáceres (70 km) with its historic centre, the beautiful city of Trujillo (90 km) and, in July and August enjoy the Festival of the Classic Theatre, while in the first week of September, the Feria de Merida is celebrated. Active guests can choose between fishing, hunting, golf and tennis.
