Hotel La Tavola Rotonda

In 2004, the Ferro family renovated the 2nd century castle of Chiavenna Landi, creating a very special first-class Hotel & Restaurant, “Albergo La Tavola Rotonda”, in this historic fortress where Frederick I (the so-called ‘Barbarossa’ or Red Beard) once stayed for his coronation in Pavia.

Today, the charming hotel boasts very elegant bedrooms, furnished in aristocratic style of the time, and two fabulous suites with Jacuzzis and, unsurprisingly, one of these is the fantastic Suite Barbarossa. Situated in a little district of Cortemaggiore, the Castle is in a strategic position, not far from the most important attractions of the area, such as the historical centre of Piacenza with its Cathedral, Farnese Palace, and much more; also the picturesque medieval villages of the ancient duchy of Parma and Piacenza – with a string of evocative castles, fortresses, hill forts, royal palaces and abbeys….

During the centuries, the Castle has never had substantial changes, and still has some special characteristics today such as the ‘allure’ (parapet/rampart) with ‘caditoie’ (machicolation drain) openings, Ghibelline batttlements and, above all, the magnificent ancient tower, ex-outpost against threatening raids and incursions.

Past times…today you can enjoy dallying in the splendid park or in the wellness corner in the secret grottoes, an oasis of pleasure with sauna, Turkish bath, multiple hydro-massage tub with chromotherapy, and relaxation area. Or you can taste the excellent cuisine of the Hotel’s Restaurant: large rooms and wonderful salons on two floors – ideal for receptions and dream weddings (with the main floor boasting the characteristic, imposing ‘Tavola Rotonda’ Round Table -, garden and internal courtyard for dancing), and for events and company meetings.

The ancient court mews host a ‘medieval’ pizzeria which takes you on an exhilarating trip of flavours and typical Piacenza cuisine, surrounded by a ‘knightly’ atmosphere..and lastly, the wine cellar, pride of the hotel, which will surprise you with its large range of national and international wines selected very carefully.
