Castello di Spedaletto

“Castello di Spedaletto” is in the centre of Val d’Orcia, at the gateway to the splendid art city of Pienza and set amongst the famous vineyards of Montalcino and Montepulciano. Built in the 12th century by a religious person as a place of welcome for the wayfarers and pilgrims travelling along Via Francigena, the ‘Spedale’ has also hosted illustrious and eminent travellers such as Charles II and Pope Pio II.

Expanded in the 15th century, the square-plan castle boasts picturesque embattled towers, a splendid fortified access gateway and a solid tower for its defence. Inside the courtyard there is a Gothic chapel with magnificent façade decorated with a rose-window and a Gothic-arched entrance.

The apartments and bedrooms are in the converted ancient granary building and cloister and are furnished with antique Siena furniture from the countryside. They have original 15th century beams, wrought-iron canopy-beds and large bathrooms with Florentine-style cornices.
Furthermore, wood-burning fires in the apartments enhance the fascination of the historic environment, which have every comfort at the same time, making your stay unforgettable: a unique experience to feel like real castle-dwellers, in harmony with the fascinating Tuscan countryside.
