Matera is a city known all over the world for its splendid ‘Stones’, an agglomerate of millenial constructions excavated out of the tufa rock, which make it one of the most ancient continually inhabited places in the world.

The Locanda di San Martino, situated I the centre of Matera, offers the possibility of living a unique and rare experience: you can sleep in a ‘grotto-house’ which has not changed for thousands of years, but at the same time has all the comforts of modern life.

The ‘grotto-rooms’ are on 4 levels and are connected by fascinating underground passages excavated in the rock, by internal steps and (for those who do not want to renounce technology) by lifts. A fully equipped conference room is available for small conferences, seminars and shows.
