Hostellerie Château des Fines Roches

Perched on the summit of a hill, the Hostellerie Château des Fines Roches, a charming boutique hotel with gourmet restaurant, is situated in the heart of the Châteauneuf-du-Pape vineyard, just a short drive from Avignon and close to other beautiful towns and enchanting villages of the Provence region.
In the 14th century Avignon was the seat of a series of French Popes and Châteauneuf-du-Pape (“The new castle of the Pope”), was the Pope’s country residence - just like Rome’s Castelgandolfo. Today the significance of the tiny village lies not in the power of the church but in that of the vine. Châteauneuf-du-Pape actually comprises some 7,500 acres of land, all vineyards producing world class red wines and a small quantity of a less known, but elegant white.

The Château des Fines Roches, former residence of the famous Provençal poet Marquis Folco de Baroncelli Javo, offers 4-star service and comfortable lodging in luxuriously appointed rooms, a flower-filled courtyard, an elegant library where aperitifs are sipped, and a stunning terrace with panoramic views. Built in the 19th century in the same style as the Papal castle but on a much smaller scale, it was converted into a fine hotel in 1974, displays an enchanting Provençal decor and opens onto the vineyards on the Rhône valley.

With almost 120 acres Château des Fines Roches is one of the larger estates and in its cellars the modern winery runs a tasting room and shop of the chateau’s products which, of course, also appear on the extensive wine list that accompanies the excellent food and its rich mediterranean flavours.
