“Villa di Monte Solare”, an ancient aristocratic residence with its secular farm-houses, was converted into a luxurious hotel in 1989. The name Monte Solare derives from the most important high plain of the rolling hills which surround Lake Trasimeno in the centre of Italy, between Umbria and Tuscany. In fact, in ancient times the Monte was well-known for the cult worship of the Sun divinity.
Here, among the green olive trees, vineyards and woods, the exclusive estate offers its guests charm and tranquillity together with a unique atmosphere for a relaxing vacation. The hotel boasts a large Italian garden enhanced with lemon and orange trees, two swimming pools, a luxurious wellbeing centre, tennis court and two golf courses in the immediate vicinity.
The excellent restaurant run by a famous chef, a well-stocked cellar with the biggest selection of Umbrian wines in Italy and a meeting salon equipped for small congresses and courses, complete the large range of services offered.
Dating back to 1780, during the centuries the splendid Villa has been an aristocratic residence and centre of the agricultural activity of the estate. It still has its original characteristics unaltered: large fireplaces, wall decorations, antique terracotta and period furnishing.
In it, is the Reception, the Restaurants, the Coat of Arms Salon, the ‘Altana’ with its magnificent panoramas and some of the bedrooms. The various categories of bedrooms and suites are distributed among the Villa, the Limonaia, the Casa dei Gelsi, the Olivaia and a delightful stone-built house, surrounded by secular olive trees still in production and majestic as real living sculptures, rightly called ‘Olivi’.
In every corner of the estate a fascinating atmosphere of past times can be breathed: The ‘Casa dei Gelsi’, which hosts elegant spacious suites, was built in 1639 and the farmers surrounded it with mulberry trees, once upon a time cultivated for the breeding of silkworms. In front of the ancient olive mill, the Olivaia, is a fountain with a stone press recalling the past use of the enchanting farmstead.
