Le Prieuré

Overlooking the Loire river, Le Prieuré, a former Benedictine monastery (prieuré = priory) dating from the 12th and 16th centuries, features pointed steeples, tall turrets and panoramic terraces with stunning views of the Loire valley. The charming manor house located in Chênehutte, only 3 miles from famous Bouvet Ladubay winery, is the perfect place for a gastronomic Tour de France.
In the distance you can admire King René's 15th century fairytale castle dominating the pastoral scene and the medieval town of Saumur. Perched on a rocky headland, Le Prieuré with its imposing towers stands proudly amidst its 60 acres of wooded parkland that extends down to the river.

The interiors are somptuous and spacious, with a wonderful spiral staircase and great carved fireplaces. Canopied beds, richly patterned fabrics and antique furnishings confer a personal touch to the luxury bedrooms equipped with all modern comfort and balconies with splendid views. More traditional bedrooms are available in the Résidence du Parc.
The hotel’s restaurant with panoramic summer terrace and exceptional river views offers classic French cooking, specializing in river fish dishes, mushrooms and truffles. In the 17th century cellars dug by the Benedictine monks you can taste famous Loire Valley wines.

Guests can also enjoy the outdoor pool, play tennis, mini-golf or pétanque. Bikes and table tennis are also available on the grounds, as are meeting and banqueting facilities for corporate events or dinner parties. And only 15 miles away you can visit the Royal Abbey of Fontevrault, one of the largest and best preserved monasteries in Europe, with tombs of Henry II Plantagenet and Richard the Lionheart.
