Castell Deudraeth

Castell Deudraeth, an amazing castle which comes complete with its very own walled garden, combines 21st century comfort with the building’s heritage: Victorian architecture at its most fantastical, set amidst the quiet woods of North Wales, and with stunning views over the bay.

Opened in 2001, the hotel offers 11 fabulous contemporary styled rooms (4 suites and 7 bedrooms), two main dining areas, a bar, several exhibition spaces and the stunning garden which offers further entertaining space during the summer. The interiors fuse traditional Welsh materials such as slate and oak with cutting edge design, contemporary paintings and, notably, original prints by Marc Chagall.

Rooms within the Castell are very spacious and furnished with king or queen-size beds, underfloor heating and the latest in communication and entertainment systems. Whirlpool baths in the marble tiled bathrooms, integrated kitchen areas and laptop points come as standard.
The Castell Deudraeth Bar and Grill offers informal but stylish dining in this refurbished Victorian mansion. The brasserie style menu based on fresh local produce including lobster, rock oysters and scallops, accompanied by an extensive wine list, fits well with the relaxed contemporary design.

Sir Clough Williams-Ellis bought the land in the 1920s and spent the next 50 years building the enchanting village of Portmeirion, which really became a great place to visit, being about a ten minute walk from the Castell – his aim to convert it into a hotel was not achieved during his lifetime…
You will find watersports, riding, shooting and sailing nearby, fishing and golf at 2 miles. North Wales offers something to suit every taste: stately castles, lively family parks, art galleries, craft centres, museums, steam trains… or you just potter around charming villages and explore the rugged coastline.
