Resort Baglio Oneto

The wine-maker Baglio Oneto dei Principi di S.Lorenzo continues the aristocratic tradition of the Oneto family which has produced wine since the 18th century.

Situated in Marsala at Contrada Baronazzo Amalfi, the enchanting Oneto Baglio has typical Sicilian grapevines and wines. Inside Baglio Oneto is the “Segreta” is a historic wine-cellar, where the wine is aged and holding the reserve. Built in the 18th century and now renovated, the pretty embattled structure with its splendid swimming pool is the best regional example of luxury wine tourism.

Marsala, a pretty baroque city, which is famous for its wine exported all over the world, is situated on Capo Lilibeo, the most western part of the island, which is just 140km from Tunisia.

The fascinating “Via del Sale” (‘Salt route’) borders the sea from Marsala towards the north. The splendid countryside is enchanting with its windmills and white salt-pans sparkling in the sun, contrasting with the blue of the lagoon dotted by the Egadi Islands, which are easily reached by hydrofoil. Recommended is a stop at the “Museo delle Saline” (Salt Museum) which illustrates the traditions of the salt-pans inside one of the windmills, before the coast itinerary finishes at Trapani.

And for those who want to experiment a route with African influences, a visit 20 km towards the south at the “Gateway of the Oriente” is advised, to Mazara del Vallo, the largest fishing port in Sicily, where there is still today the authentic atmosphere of the ancient Kasbah, founded by the Arabs.
