Château de Fère

“Château de Fère”, a stunning 13th century fortified castle, was built by Robert de Dreux, grandson of Louis VI, King of France. In the 16th century the Chancellor and Governor General of France, de Montmorency, began extensive renovations and embellishments of the castle, transforming it into his country seat of relaxation.

He is credited with the commissioning of the remarkable bridge over the moat, today still solidly towering above the gardens, a monument to his grand vision and foresight.

Designed by the celebrated architect Jean Bullant, whose works included the homes and tombs of Henry II and Catherine de Medici, it rests on five extraordinary, full-curved arches, with a double gallery rising above, part of which is now in ruins.

The château, now a deluxe, first class castle hotel, is as it was then, proud and honoured to provide the utmost in refined luxury accommodations and hospitality, an incredible wealth of gastronomic delicacies and fine vintage wines, simply put, the very best in the elegant French art of living and entertaining.
