La Dimora del Genio

The La Dimora del Genio is a pretty Bed & Breakfast occupying the second floor of a small historical 17th century building whose magnificent frescoed and panelled ceilings still recall today the splendour of Palermo’s golden age. Situated in the centre of the fascinating capital of Sicily, between Piazza Rivoluzione, Fontana Genio di Palermo – from which the enchanting residence takes its name – and Via Lincoln which leads to the Botanic Gardens.

The hotel is perfectly situated near prestigious buildings, baroque churches and monuments in the heart of the historical centre, “I Quattro Canti”, the large square next to the famous “Pretoria Fountain” and from which lead off a labyrinth of small streets in all directions: the liveliness and happiness of Palermo is best expressed here, especially in the “Vucciria” district with its markets rich in colours, flavours and fragrances, extending from Via Roma right to the “La Cala” port.

The most ancient and important part of the city is a few hundred metres further west, but still reachable on foot from Dimora del Genio: the imposing Cathedral, San Giovanni degli Eremiti with its picturesque red dome and exotic cloister garden, and lastly, the Royal Palace with incomparable “Palatine Chapel”, an artistic masterpiece with a blend of Norman, Arab and Byzantine styles in that typical Palermo way which perfectly reflects the character of the metropolis as an ancient melting-pot of culture, languages and religions.

And in the evenings, after a long impressionable day, the district around the welcoming B&B offers a wide choice of excellent bars and restaurants where you can enjoy an aperitif or an excellent typical Sicilian dinner.
