“Glin Castle”, the historic estate of the Knight of Glin and his wife, Madam Fitzgerald, writer of the country’s definitive gardening book, is demurely set on the banks of the River Shannon, within a five hundred acre demesne and the simply spectacular main garden, set in a formal layout of bay trees and yews that give way to a wild landscape of Tresco daffodils, gunneras and magnolias - all warmed by the Gulf stream.
The interior is 18th century inspired Irish rococo, with every corner filled with objets d’art or of curious interest and simple beauty. Guests can enjoy the wonderful library with mahogany bookcases, right beneath the rare and impressive flying staircase, or the Drawing room with its Rossi marble mantelpiece.
Every room is a unique reflection of its guest, with an individual style, décor and layout sure to please and delight the knowing traveller.
Glin Castle dining offers freshly caught fish and locally reared beef and lamb as well as fresh fruit and vegetables grown, of course, in the castle's organic walled garden.
