Culzean Castle The Eisenhower Apartment

“Culzean Castle The Eisenhower Apartment” is perhaps the truest representation of the quintessential storybook Castle: Perched on a mountain cliff top off the rugged, rocky coast of Ayrshire, it fittingly dominates the landscape.

One of the finest examples of Georgian architecture, Robert Adam’s 18th century masterpiece was commissioned by the 10th Earl of Cassillis and remains to this day an awe-inspiring work of art.

Culzean Castle was the seat of power of the renowned Kennedy family, one of Scotland’s oldest, that later donated the property to the National Trust for Scotland, who in turn presented the tenancy of its top floor to General Eisenhower as a token of their great appreciation.

Following his passing the Trust opened its doors to the wider public, making possible its sojourning and affording accommodations in those same premises for a few very fortunate guests.
