“Greywalls Hotel” was originally built as an elegant holiday home by the celebrated architect Sir Edwin Lutyens, at the turn of the 20th Century and on the grounds of the championship Golf Course at Muirfield and the Firth of Forth.
Inviting honey coloured stone worked by monks and sourced from the Rattlebags Quarry, special roof pantiles from Denmark, all adorn the unusually crescent shaped house that was one of Lutyens’ favourite projects.
The walled gardens, with their lavender borders, holly hedges and secret hidden enclaves, still maintain all their glorious design, attributed to the renowned landscape artist Gertrude Jekyll.
The quiet graciousness of this country house is best reflected in their guestrooms, tastefully and demurely decorated using quality fabrics, furnishings and touches of antique pieces to complete the elegant and poised character of the entire property.
The dining facilities enjoy an enviable reputation for excellence in both its selection and presentation of culinary creations as well as its aplomb in discreet and always courteous service, the kind one comes to expect from this superb country manor.
