“Dornoch Castle Hotel” was originally built as far back as the 14th century, complete with vaulted ceilings and dungeons below its main Tower.
Legend has it, a secret underground passage was added from the Castle to the Cathedral, to conceal church valuables during the troubling times of the Reformation.
The castle, following centuries of ruin and repair, became the town Courthouse and Jail, wherein a sheep stealer by the name of Andrew McCornish was imprisoned in the dungeons below, later believed to be the harmless ghost that still roams the castle grounds.
With its Baronial home atmosphere, all en-suite bedrooms are elegantly appointed with fine linens, special touches such as bathrobes, complimentary slippers, chocolate and sherry to pamper their guests.
The Garden Restaurant’s head chef takes great pride in serving some of the finest seafood dishes, Aberdeen Angus beef, Highland venison and lamb, all fresh local Scottish fayre.
From the castle’s envious position, close to miles of golden beaches, the great lochs and rich rolling hills, guests can wander and explore this beautiful corner of Scotland.
