Surrounded by green hills, on a splendid plain suspended in time and space, is the Gigliotto holiday farm, an estate of over 300 hectares of fertile land cultivated in the traditional way.
Situated in the heart of the island of sun, near Piazza Armerina with its famous Roman ‘Casale’ Villa, the estate is in an ideal position for excursions to numerous famous tourist localities, such as Taormina and the fascinating Park of Etna, the superb temples and monuments of Agrigento and Syracuse, the baroque splendour of Noto and Ragusa, and lastly, the nearby city of Caltagirone, famous pottery centre, and the ancient Greek site of Morgantina with its splendid theatre.
The Gigliotto holiday estate, an ancient 14th century monastery, has been developed around a Sicilian ‘baglio’, overlooked by 14 comfortable bedrooms and a large dining room, a magic meeting place for the fragrances and flavours typical of the regional cuisine using organic products, accompanied by wines, produced on the estate, from Nero d’Avola grapes.
Once the territory of the ‘Ganzeria’, it was one large fief, whose first historical news dates back to 1296. Under the Aragons, part of the estate was sold and in 1794, Silvio Bonanno il Gigliotto – from whom the structure takes its name – bought the estate, remaining in his family until 1990, when it was bought by the Savoca family, who transformed it into the present enchanting farm holiday estate.
