Eremo della Giubiliana

L’Eremo della Giubiliana is a charming hotel situated a few kilometres south of Ragusa, more south than Tunisia, in the Western Lands of a different Sicily: that of the Iblei mountains high plain and its uncontaminated natural history, among carob woods and dry-stone walls.

Its white tower dominates the high plain allowing you to pick out, on clear days, the island of Malta and the African coast. The building, dating from the 12th century, is an ex-Arab property which constituted a kind of fortified ‘baglio’ for defence purposes.

The Knights of the Order of St. John used the structure as a monastery in the first half of the 16th century. Since the 18th century, the Nifosì family have owned the property, transforming it today into a splendid place to stay, the bedrooms created from the friars’ cells.

With every comfort, the bedrooms are furnished with Sicilian period furniture and original family furnishings and ornaments, which make them so different from traditional hotel bedrooms.

The hermitage is also the ideal place for a gastronomy-wine holiday, based on organic products and wines from its assorted cellar collection. Among facilities offered by the hotel are a swimming pool, a private beach at only 8km distance and aeroplane landing facilities with two landing strips for private planes, a service which makes L’Eremo della Giubiliana really unique in its type.
