San Giuseppe Castle is surrounded by little lakes and a green morainic arch in a quiet, panoramic zone on top of a hill.
Dating back to the 17th century, it was originally a monastery for religious orders such as the Teresiani and Carmelitani Scalzi. Later, during Napoleon Bonaparte’s occupation of Piemonte, it was fortified for military purposes. Guests, actress Eleonora Duse and composer Arrigo Boito had an intense love affair inside these walls.
A small relaxation centre in the ancient sacristy creates wellbeing of body and mind with treatments of ancient traditions: ayurvedic and stone massages, aromatherapy and rituals with herbs.
Guests can enjoy the calm of the hermitage’s two panoramic gardens with secular plants, or amenable guided walks in the surrounding hills, down to the edges of the five morainic lakes below.
The “Il Cenobio” restaurant offers traditional and elaborated Italian cuisine with ‘tasting’ or personalised menus.
During the summer season, a gazebo extends the restaurant into a garden of palm and magnolia trees, with a fresh and romantic candlelit atmosphere.
