Caol Ishka Hotel is a typical Sicilian ‘masseria’ farm, whose name comes from ancient Gaelic language meaning ‘the noise of water’: in fact, the hotel in surrounded by uncontaminated nature on the banks of the Anapo river, with a view over the port and the island of Ortigia, the oldest part of the splendid historical city of Syracuse.
The architectural renovation project has reinforced whilst keeping intact the original walls. The interior is a triumph of geometry and light pastel colours exalted by clever lighting. The furnishing of the 10 bedrooms is the result of a harmonious mix of craftsmanship, modern and antiquarian design, Sicilian baroque, detailed bathrooms and numerous particulars such as natural oak beams, high-quality wood floor-boarding, extra-large craftsmen-made doors with various finishes: gold-leaf, mosaic…..
The small yet exclusive Zafferano Bistrot restaurant offers traditional Sicilian cuisine enhanced by the Chef’s imagination, with particular attention paid to choice of local top-quality, fresh ingredients – a creative cuisine with surprising results.
Large verandas and the garden landscaped according to its fluvial surroundings all enhance the masseria: Bamboo plants and wild herbs at the edges with spontaneous vegetation give way to flower-beds with aromatic plants, Mediterranean vegetation and a large lawn next to the swimming pool.
Comfort, elegance and tranquillity make Caol Ishka a paradise corner, situated in an area full of beaches, places of cultural interest and natural reserves not to be missed.
