Surrounded by typical Mediterranean vegetation in a true oasis of peace, the Masseria offers the possibility of having absolute relaxation living in harmony with nature. Alternatively, it also offers a large range of recreative activities: the splendid swimming pool, trekking or horse-riding along the river, among secular Olive trees and woods of Turkey Oak and Eucalyptus trees, excursions to discover the fascinating surroundings, such as Tusa Castle, stronghold of artists with exhibitions and shows.
The modern sculpture works and the pottery of Santo Stefano di Camastra – known all over the world, contrast with the archaeological remains of the ancient city of “Halaesa” and those of San Mauro Castelverde which is rich in history and suggestive legends, the ruins of the Pettineo medieval castle and the ancient Cappuccini monks monastery with its air of intense mysticism inside.
Finally, the old stables, transformed into a restaurant with large open-air spaces, allow guests to taste typical local dishes prepared with traditional recipes.
Originally from Ragusa, the Maggiore family acquired the ancient Stranghi estate in the second half of the 19th century and developed it to its maximum splendour, with five families in succession harvesting the grapes and cultivating the estate’s land.
After the war, the estate fell into decline with people leaving the countryside for the towns, until 1995 when it was re-opened, with the house, wine-press building, olive-press building, hay-store building renovated according to modern needs, bringing the Masseria back to life and allowing tourists, searching for a unique experience, to share the passion for ancient traditions in an unusual way and far from the frenzy of modern rhythms.
