The construction of the cathedral of Gerona begins in the eleventh century in Romanesque style, it continues in the thirteenth century in Gothic style, and ends in the eighteenth century.

Since the beginning of Christianity the city of Gerona was the seat of a bishopric at the church of Santa Maria, governing the deacon martyr’s shrine of St. Felix. The church of San Felix received Christian worship instead of the Santa Maria when the Arabs appropriated to turn it into a mosque in the year 717.

Another site of interest, is the Jewish quarter of Girona (in Latin Gerunda). The golden period of the Jewish community of Girona is the Kabbalistic school and today is one of the many attractions of the city.

You can also visit the famous Girona Arab Baths that were built in 1194 with a structure that copied that of the Muslim baths. In 1294 repairs had to be made because of damage and in the fifteenth century the Arab Baths were closed permanently.
