The Monasterio de San Millan Hotel is actually a wing of the Yuso Monastery in San Millán de la Cogolla, and it has been declared World Heritage by UNESCO.
The Monasterio de San Millan Hotel is a historic building, and in its origins it was part of the route of the Camino de Santiago, still preserving the oldest manuscripts of Spain which were written in Spanish and Euskera.

There are two monasteries, the oldest at the top of the mountain called San Millan de Suso (in old Castilian, suso means above) and San Millan de Yuso, (in old Castilian yuso means below). The Monasterio de San Millan Hotel actually occupies a wing of San Millan de Yuso.
San Millan de Suso (top) was inhabited by Saint Millan and in the lower part of the mountain you will find two levels of caves which were the Saint and his disciples lived.
In the monastery of Yuso (bottom) stands the church, the cloister, the sacristy and the whole Baroque library and archive. At present besides the Augustinian friars monastery this has become the center of International Research of the Spanish Language.
