The Condes de Fucares Boutique Hotel is located in the foothills of Sierra Morena in an old mining town called Almaden. The original building is thought to be built before the 12th century and later run by Dominican monks during the First Inquisition in the late 15th century.
In 1525 the local mine was leased to the Fuggers or Fucares, a family of German bankers as part of the contract made with the Orders of Santiago, Calatrava and Alcantara, as collateral to finance a loan to fund the Imperial elections and the wars of Carlos I of Spain and Charles V of Germany.
This historic building has been refurbished to accomodate a comfortable yet charming boutique hotel full of history, keeping it's studded wooden doors, sturdy beams and quality floors. You'll notice that there are is no television in the room, but instead a very nice library.
After a good night sleep in the romantic canopy beds and after having been transported back a few centuries, Jose and Susana, the actual hotel owners, will spoil you every morning with a hearty breakfast of homemade cakes, bread rolls, jams, etc.
You can later take a long walk in the beautiful gardens or just grab a book from the library and relax reading on the leather comfortable sofa.
The Condes de Fucares offers you a great opportunity to inmerse yourself in the middle ages, in a house with a long fascinating history, and at the end of your stay, you will find it hard to believe that you actually stayed at a hotel...
