Castello di Bibbione

Built by the Cadolingis of Montecascioli, Bibbione Castle is documented in ancient manuscripts as far back as 997 A.D. with the name “Castrum Bibionis”. Surrounded by walls, which served as the ultimate point of defence for its inhabitants, the castle dominates a medieval village and ancient houses situated on the slope of the Sant’Angelo hill in the Chianti territory, and whose lands reach down to the via Cassia and Pesa river below.

In 1511, Niccolò Machiavelli bought Castello di Bibbione, using it as a hunting residence. His family kept possession of the Bibbione estate for several centuries until the 18th century when it passed on to the Rangoni family.

The apartments are in the converted ancient houses on the estate and have been renovated respecting the original structures, with attention to the smallest detail. They have every modern comfort without comprising the traditional Tuscan style, using high-quality materials: antique terracotta, ‘Serena’ stone and wooden beams. Family paintings and antique rugs enhance the suggestive environment.

The complex, set in the splendid scenery of the Chianti hills, offers a wide range of activities and an “Ayurveda” well-being centre to renew psycho-physical equilibrium in an atmosphere of complete relaxation.
