Parador de Benavente

Surrounded by beautiful gardens, in an area called Jardines de la Mota, the Parador de Benavente is located in the heart of this city located between León and northeastern Portugal. Location of the Cortes in 1202, this Renaissance castle-palace was built on the orders of Ferdinand II of León and is part of the old walled city, known as the “the city of counts” thanks to the numerous Romanesque monuments.

Practically destroyed in 1808 during the revolutionary war, the building still preserves the monumental Torre del Caracol that has a notable mudéjar vaulted ceiling inside.

Inside there's the classic historic elements, such as precious rugs, wrought-iron lamps, vaulted ceilings, Castillian woodworks and bricks.
The fabulous rooms offer luxurious amenities and gourmet restaurant with typical dishes of the region:fried eggs, bacon and sausage and for dessert, Tocino de cielo (a type of flan).

Benavente and Zamora are studded with Romanesque churches and hikers can follow the archaeological route (30 km), Route Orbigo (40 km), mountain roads or Culebra Tierra de Campos (50 km). Other attractions are the Parque Natural Lagunas (28 km) and the ruins of the monastery of La Granja Moreruela (25 km).
