In the higher part of the Municipality of Monforte de Lemos, San Vicente, the monumental complex of San Vicente do Pino, formed by the Benedictine monastery tower and the palace of the Conti di Lemos, represent the structure of the Parador.
Among the chief town of the province, there's the fortified city of Lugo, in the north (60 km), Ourense in the south (40 km), the town is located between the valleys of the Sil and its flowing Cabe and Mino rivers.
The date of construction of the original convent dates back to the IX century, even if the actual building, that replaces a previous building was built in the XVII century in Neo-classic style. It has a splendid central stone cloister, very well finished, considered to be an item of great architectural interest.
After the restoration, the monastery was transformed into a comfortable hotel with 50 rooms distributed around the cloister and an outbuilding called"Casa do Monte Fort". There are also 7 meeting rooms that can accommodate from 14 to 300 people, a wellness centre with jacuzzi and outdoor swimming pool.
For free time, the region offers numerous festivals, especially in August and a series of outdoor and adventure sports such as kayaking, canyoning, rock climbing, hang gliding and speleology. Games and fishing are two typical activities of the mountain area, you can fish great trouts and eels, just like hunting deer and hare. Shank with turnip tops (Lacón con grelos), chorizo, empanadas, spicy pork (Zorza), tripe and octopus are other regional specialties.
