La Calandra

The “La Calandra” resort is on the rocky coastline of Cala Creta on Lampedusa, the largest island of the Pelagie archipelago, in the middle of the Mediterranean Sea and easily reached by aeroplane. Harmoniously set in the countryside, thanks to its special stone architecture, it is suspended between rock, turquoise sea and African silence – a silence only interrupted by the lapping of the sea waves and seagulls…

A garden full of succulent plants surrounds the little ‘dammusi’ facing the sea. The exotic atmosphere, the attentive and friendly hospitality, accompanied by its evocative position, make it the ideal place for a relaxing and wellness holiday, especially for those who love the sea, boats and good fish. The twelve elegant bedrooms in the pretty ‘dammusi’ are not very large, but enjoy a panoramic position in front of the sea or the rocks and are completely private.

They are lovingly furnished in ethnic style, each having a private patio with furniture and modern comforts – however, specifically without TV or telephone, allowing you to take refuge in an atmosphere of past times….The coolness of the treated domes and white plasterwork and the openness of the flowered patches of vegetation make “La Calandra” an evocative place.

A comfortable mahogany ‘gulet’ sailing schooner, for the exclusive use of guests and captained by expert Lampedusa fishermen, is available to take you on sea excursions so that you can discover every little bay, inlet and grotto. The ‘Conigli’ beach is considered by experts to be one of the ten best beaches in the world, and the island is among the best places in Italy for diving, without having to go too far out to sea to admire the untouched and breathtaking sea bottom. Lunch is aboard the sailing boat and is based on the fish caught that day.

Days can be spent diving and swimming in the open sea and upon return, you can enjoy the last rays of the sunshine on the terrace or with a last swim in the bay underneath. Before dinner in one of the numerous restaurants on the island, you can taste local ‘ghiottonerie’ (tasty morsels) and selected wines, which are available during the aperitif on the panoramic terrace.
