Parador de Lerma

In the highest part of the town of Lerma, dominating the Valley of Arlanzón, stands the Palazzo Ducale, built on the foundations of a 10th century castle, in different stages between 1601 and 1617, according to the designs of the architect Francisco de Mora. This building was commissioned by the first duke of Lerma, Francisco Gómez de Sandoval y Rojas.

Turned into a Parador with 70 rooms, it has a central courtyard surrounded by columned porticos, twenty Tuscan columns with arches and twenty Ionic columns.
In honour of Infanta Margarita, daughter of Philip IV, who was baptized in the Ducal Villa de Lerma, is nominated the most beautiful room of the Parador with a breath-taking view of the Arlanza del Vega, king size canopy bed, living room and scenic jacuzzi.

To visit nearby:many convents of Lerma, the charming town of Covarrubias founded in 987 (22 km), the famous monastery of Santo Domingo de Silos (31 km), with its precious Gothic churches, the Sierra de la Demanda (45 km), a unique mountain range with peaks almost always covered with snow. Or you can choose to play golf (two prestigious golf courses at 5 or 20 minutes, with reduced rates for the guests of the Parador).

And then relax with a good massage at the Parador and then taste the natural products of the territory: morcilla de Burgos and cheeses, fresh fish from the River, stews with roasted garlic, oven roasted lamb, plus dessert recipes such as the apples covered with vanilla ice-cream, cakes and candies.
